So everyone loves EVO right? You can't not love EVO, its a conglomerate of the best fighting games around and the best fighting game players around all mixed together in a giant melting pot of things that make your penis feel smaller looking at it. Seriously, there is nothing more emasculating then seeing the pro's do that thing that pro's do. Which makes it all the more inspiring as a player to watch. But recently I've talked to a few friends about EVO and it seems its fallen out of their good graces due to a decision of lineup. Now I don't think this is new, no matter how much we wish it didn't happen, sometimes your game gets left out. But the issue these few I've talked to (they don't seem to be of the majority opinion, but a minority opinion is still a valid one.) seem to have is that their game not only got representation last year, but was extremely well received. Blazblue CP had such an amazing showing at EVO that it almost convinced me to drop my current game (SFIV) and pick up a ps3 just to take my shot at it. But for some reason Blazblue isn't going to be seen this next time around, despite the aforementioned hypetrain. But, as we have previously covered, sometimes your game is left out, not everyone's game makes it (especially the case with the "anime" FG's). That's not the problem that I and these others have at all, but before I get to that lets look at EVO's lineup.
USFIV - A given, I don't think we are going to see an EVO without street fighter for a very long time if the FGC has anything to say about it. No problem there.
UMVC3 - A staple at this point, not a big surprise that its around (tho a few would disagree)
Smash 4 - New smash? New smash.
GG Xrd - Okay, I can see it, so far we are very diverse.
KI - Super hype to see KI back again, this game is fun to play and even more fun to watch, and its thriving young competitive scene is going strong.
MKX - Well...can't really form an opinion as it isn't out yet, but I suppose it will have plenty of time to flesh out before the time comes around, and I can't imagine it will be so much different from MK9 as to warrant not including it.
Persona - I've nothing to say about it, haven't played it, apparently its being very well received and the persona fandom is being encouraged into the FGC by it so I cant see an issue.
Tekken 7 - Again, its not out yet so I don't really know what to say about it, but again, its a sequel and I'm sure it wont be that much different from the previous installment.
Smash Melee - Um....old smash. Large fanbase? Consistent if not stagnant competitive scene? Brings in a big chunk of attendance.
The question is why two smash games? Why does melee need to be around with smash 4 growing and fleshing itself out in a great way? Why does smash 4 need to be around if Melee has such a great competitive scene and such a large viewership? Why not boot one of these games for blazblue? I'll be the first to admit I'm not a smash player, I think smash is great and I like that it can be a great entry level game for people getting into the FGC and I see it all over the place so god knows its popular, but I don't play it. Why does smash need two slots? What decisions do you think went into this and do you think blazblue will get representation after extend launches? And if you think your game was left out and was more deserving of another games spot, which game and why? Keep in mind this shouldn't turn into a "My game is better then your game". Discussion?
