Demon Bride: New 2D fighting game by Examu?

$

Some days ago Examu, the guys behind Arcana Heart, launch the official website of eX-BOARD, his own Arcade machine:

http://www.examu.co.jp/ex-board/

And they confirm six games for the machine, the first is (obviously) Arcana Heart 2 that is now in everywhere at Japan, the second is Monster Ancient Cline (that you can follow this on his own thread here at SRK) and the others are a Quiz game, a Beat em Up 3D game and a Shogi game...

But, the last, is called "Demon Bride" and the website says that its a "shin kijiku taisen action!" (???2D????????... New 2D combat action game) and if i remember correctly that was the same name when they confirm Arcana Heart so many years ago.

So, its seems that Examu is coming with ANOTHER 2D fighting game... i guess.

MLP: Fighting Is Magic - A Fighting game for manly men only (New characters from MLP creator?!)

The 1st thread was closed because of shitstorms and drama. I know ponies are a delicate issue here but please refrain from unnecessary comments.

From the FAQ:

Q: Why Fighting ponies?
A: Why not?

Q: But...why ponies?
A: We like ponies. Ponies are cool.

Q: Are you new to the Gaming Developing Scene?, Not sure I’ve heard of you before.
A: Mane6 as a group is. Fighting is Magic is our first collaborative effort. The DevTeam members have been around and participated in other projects individually.
All of us are seasoned Fighting Game players, though. We’ve a fair idea of what we want to do in our game and how to reach it. Don’t let the “first project ever” fool you ;)

Q: Will there be combos?
A: Indeed there’ll be.

Q: Will there be Supers?
A: Ee-yup.

Q: And projectiles?
A: Indeed.

Q: Local VS only, or is there netplay?
A: We’ve both Local and Online Versus mode planned.

Q: How will the VS multiplayer work? Is there a central HUB/Server to which we connect to?
A: There is a HUB, but it is not central. We’re using MTSP, a netplay client based on Lunaport, with improved netplay and an integrated chat available; Once you’ve downloaded the client, you’ve the option to set your own “server” or of acting as a client, for a Max of 100 connections (that we’re aware of). You can set more than one Lobby Host in your computer, provided they’re in different ports.

Q: How many characters will there be?
A: 17 Characters in total, with the Mane 6 (Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash) playable at release.

Q: And the other 11?
A: They’ll be released in game updates in a semi-regular fashion after Launch.

Q: Why only 17?
A: Several reasons. Mainly, that we wanted to focus on quality over quantity. We’d rather release 17, solid, balanced characters than four dozen palette-swap clones.

Q: Ok, I’m sold. How much will this game cost me?
A: Oh boy. Well, prepare your wallet, because this totally awesome game costs a grand total of $0.00, and it can be… wait… what?… yes, you heard right. Zero dollars and Zero Cents: That is to say. Abso-pony-lutely free.

Q: … What’s the catch?
A: No catch!, really. The game was planned from the start to be freeware. That doesn’t mean we’re half flanking the job, though, we intend to release the best game possible.

Q&As from the live stream:

Q: Will this be at EVO2012?
A: We don't think so but it would be cool lolololol.

Q: This looks weird.
A: The graphical effects will be handled last in development. Polishing the characters, gameplay, balance etc. will be done 1st.

Q: When is it coming out?
A: All we can say is "soon".

Back to the thread- So far the game kinda looks like a 1v1 mvc3, only w/o huge damage and comeback mechanics.
There are wall bounces and ground bounces, limited to 2 in a combo.
One of the 2 revealed characters is a pixie rushdown, the other is a zoner with some moves inspired by MB's Aoko. (The devs said it)

Help with finding a fighting game

Hello!

So, I need some help in finding a fighting game that I played when I was a kid on arcades. All I know is it contained "Heroes" in it's name and a few characters. One of them was a pirate and it could hit with a ghost ship and a shark. It also had a red ninja and a blue (I guess) ninja. If someone knows it please help me.

Thank you!

The concept of tier lists?

$
0
0
What is the actual concept of tier lists? Because I'm starting to think people use them too much as an excuse to hate on specific characters. Too many people rip on me because I play with evil ryu. I thought tier lists only made sense if both players are equal in skill, which is why everyone has their own tier list. For instance people say Cody is low tier but I still struggle against him with certain characters where the Cody player will win 6/10. I think Cody is mid-tier. So I guess my real question is, what do you guys think about tier lists?

Learn how to make a fighting game in Unreal 4

Greetings, Shoryuken.

My name is Alan Noon, and I am a recent employee of Epic Games. I was hired on as Developer Relations Technical Artist, which largely means I travel around from game studio to game studio, demoing Unreal 4 and solving any issues folks come across during the course of development.

In order to be super effective at this job, I need to know just about everything there is to know about the engine. Thing is, up until this point in my career, I have not had opportunity to use Unreal in a professional game development context.

What better way to learn how to make a game with Unreal, than to make a game with Unreal?

Upon arriving at Epic, it was suggested that I pick something I was interested in and then start building it. Now, I've been out of the fighting game scene for quite some time, but I have long maintained massive appreciation for the genre and community. I have decided that in order to educate myself in the ways of Unreal 4 game development, I am going to start putting together a fighting game frame work.

This sounded like something Shoryuken.com might be interested in, and thus here I am. I invite you to come along and help me learn how to make a fighting game in Unreal.

More info here: Unreal Fighting Game Reveal.

TL,DR: I'm an Unreal newbie. Help/watch me make a fighting game so I don't get canned.

Dis gonna b gud!

PC/Android Fighter Thread

Lets talk about tomorrows gaming right now.

This is not a thread for anti-console flaming, but as the main producer of chips for Sony/Microsoft (Nvidia) has said, consoles may not going to last the next waves of hardware. Nvidia is stepping into the game with their Shield, and Steam is moving toward the android platform as well. Fighters look better obviously on the PC, and now with PC gamers starting to notice the genre more (you cant even get a copy of Blazblue on Steamtrader as they are all instantly installed) and demanding better netcode, if companies respond we may see a push. Not to mention, the consoles this gen are a very close architecture to PC, developers will suffer less on ports.

The APM of some Dota 2/SC2/LOL/etc players when tested on a hitbox could be a nightmare to behold in an MLG setting.

So lets discuss PC fighters here. Anything being released, in general, whatever.

I'll start by saying that Virtua Fighter 5

Would be absolutely awesome to have on my Steam library.

How many of these thread have I made in the past?:D Well one more can't hurt.

Well as the title states this is a thread about EX. you can talk and get some help on anything! Excels, Combos, links, Chains, Glitches, tag combos, tiers, how to beat certin characters, fighting styles, combo styles, you favorite EX game and of course who is the best at the respective games.:p Combo vids can be given I have most of shinobi's vids and a KICKASS vids from a guy named Pichu(not the asshole in general who writes like a pokemon). I will see if I can get them up. IMO pichus vid is the best out.

Now over my time here I have come to respect a few opinions on the games. From Shinobi to certin n00bs. Evilkairi, Mondu, Josh, Jester, DT and a few others are tops in strats and tacs.

For me my personal fav was EX2. I liked the excel system more and it was a little more fun without the meteors. EX2+ had V.rosso so it was up there.

I don't like EX3 that much. All supers IMO. But I like the momentarys.

Well if you got tiers or imput that I can harp on come on it.

No haters.

Electronic Arts/Aorn's Rabbit

It seems to me that there are a lot of obscure fighting game fans on these boards but I have not really seen anything in regards to EA/Aorn's Rabbit posted. So I thought I would start a discussion:

rabbit_1.png rabbit_2.png

This game recently has caught my attention and I really enjoy the feeling and gameplay of this title. However, a large part of why this game is probably not talked about is that it has not had a proper emulation (there are some frame rate and sound issues) and the Sega Saturn port is re-sprited and does not seem feature nearly as nice animation. Just when I thought a had exposure to virtually all obscure fighters worth mentioning, it seems this game deserves at the very least some forum attention. The character design is more American cartoon influenced then most fighters and has a really unique cast. The engine is nothing spectacular but I can’t figure out if this game faded into obscurity because of lackluster gameplay, zero exposure or just could not stand – up to the popular stronghold of Capcom at the time.

From the very little I played and read it seems like this game was actually quite good. Rabbit does have a great colour palette and does boast some really great backgrounds. The sprite work is well done and animates nicely. It seems to me that no game aesthetically captures this kind of feeling. Except for maybe Skullgirls, but I highly doubt they cited Rabbit as an influence. The roster is only eight strong but offers some nice variety. The Gameplay has animals/stance feature that can kind of be used similar to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. The game aslo has a counter parry system. I did not really get to try fully to go into specifics.

index.php?action=dlattach;topic=663.0;attach=229;image rabbit_3.png

Fighting Gems has an episode giving a limited insight on the way the game is played and it’s features but the best video I could find on the game:

Here is one with audio (Sega Saturn Version):

How the audio differs from the arcade is beyond me.

and finally a video showing off each characters move. It really gives an idea how this game moves and feels:

It's a shame that there is no proper MAME emulation for this game and even more of a bummer that there is not a decent port on Sega Saturn. It may be the only time we ever see a game like this come from EA. Who knows though time will tell I guess. What do you guys think?

Sonic the Fighters Discussion

Yo~ Hello everyone.
This thread is for discussing the old arcade sega fighter, Sonic the Fighters(AKA Sonic Championship). From what I understand this game didn't do too well, though I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the game when I played it. But I digress. The main thing I wanted to talk about was what people think would make the game more viable as a fighter. What did you like in the game? What didn't you like in the game? If there were a sequel, what/who do you think should be in it?

Should Capcom shoulder more responsibility for getting people into FGs?

$
0

I've been seeing a lot of newer players get into the genre recently due to Steam sales and stuff and not surprisingly most people start with SF4 however it made me realize Capcom really missed the point with making the game more accessible. There is no tutorial and no explanation of how the game is meant to be played. There are plenty of other FGs that have tutorials, some ranging from basic to great, such as Skullgirls and apparently KI. For the biggest game in the genre by far, I do believe Capcom has some responsibility for introducing new players however I feel SF4 is more of an example of how not to do it.

- No tutorial
- Too much link based gameplay
- Input leniency that could bring bad habits
- Frustrating arcade mode (Overpowered Seth + reads your inputs)

So in short I believe Capcom has a responsibility of introducing new players by making the game more accessible and that they are really doing the genre a disservice by making SF4 so alienating. I'm not blaming Capcom for it as they have helped the FGC in many other ways so props to them however I do believe as a game SF4 could do a lot better in bringing in new players who don't know anything about the genre or game besides "This game has Ryu and Ken in it and you shoot fireballs out of your hands".

Thoughts?

DREAM FACTORY Thread (Tobal, Ehrgeiz, The Bouncer, etc.)

$

Dream Factory, I was told, was basically the company of Namco & Squaresoft, and one of the first fighting games I remember them releasing was TOBAL NO.1, a smooth-looking 3D fighter that had a bad-ass "Just-Frame Throw Reversal" system that was just the coolest thing I'd ever seen in a fighting game back then. The game even had character-designs done by Akira Toriyama of the Dragon Ball Z fame. Back when this game was fresh, I played it to death.

Then America misses-out on Tobal 2 (which I recently bought like 3 months ago). This game should be called "Just-Frame Crazy" or something because that's basically all it friggin' was: doing Just-Frames for about 50% of your moves; even the just-frames had just-frames!! It pretty much had all the qualities of the first game except the stages & backgrounds were MUCH more beautiful and the soundtrack was way cooler.

Then America gets EHRGEIZ, a silly-ass, "run-around freely" 3D fighting-game that was only really known for having characters from Final Fantasy VII. Well fuck Cloud...I liked the game because it was basically a better version of Tobal. And having said that, the characters in this game used ALOT of the moves used by characters in the Tekken and Tobal series. Examples: the character "Godhand" (also known as "Ken Mishima") had Paul's d+1,4,2; Hwoarang's u/f+3,4,3; and Kazuya's Spinning Demon Sweeps, Wind Godfist, and unblockable Screw Uppercut..."Han Daehan" had Gren Kuts' G+H,H,H...and "Cloud Strife" had Kazuya's (While Standing) 2 and Gren Kuts' u,u/d,d+M and his G+L,M and Chuji-Wu's f,f+M.

It was a very awkward game, but like Tobal, had a very unique throw-escape and tackling system consisting of mainly Just-Frames that sometimes even had a Reverse-Throw/Tackle effect; it resembled some crap you'd see in a UFC game. This was basically the first game to have the "Sparkling Blue" effect whenever a just-frame attack was executed (like we see today with Tekken 4/5's Paul Phoenix's d+4,:2,:1+2, which REALLY reminded me of Ehrgeiz the first time I saw it). Overall, it was a fun game with neat stages and a pretty mellow soundtrack.

Then to top it all off, originally thought to be "Ehrgeiz 2", we have THE BOUNCER. The game looked good as hell, the whole beat-em-up style + RPG system was kinda neat, and they put a lot of effort into the story, characters, soundtrack, and voice acting; and they were all great.....BUT IT WAS JUST GARBAGE WHEN YOU PLAYED IT. I dunno, it was weird. The limbs on all the characters just resembled broken dolls whenever they fell on the floor, and their weren't alot of moves or blocking mechanics. I still haven't grown attached to it to this day. The "Trinity Rush" moves were pretty cool (where you and your 2 pals just gang-up on one guy and fuck him up), and the whole 4-player concept was a nice idea. The villian, Dauragon C. Mikado, was one of the coolest bad guys I'd ever seen in a game.

And once again, it borrowed moves from alot of the old games (Tobal, Tekken, & Ehrgeiz). Sion Barzahd had Cloud Strife's "Double Uppercut" move; Volt Krueger had King's "Giant Swing"; and Kou Leifou borrows Han Daehan's f+H,H,H, his G+H,H,H, his (Running) H+L,L, and his Crane stance combo (which was like H x7). There was even this chick in the game name "Echidna" who basically fought like Tekken's Eddy Gordo/Christie, and another chick named "Kaldea" who fought like Nina Williams.

...and that's it for me. Those're all the Dream Factory games I can recall. I really do miss alot of these old games, and I hope Dream Factory considers picking up one of them. I think back about some of the characters I'd like to see again in a new game, such as Han Daehan, Godhand, Yoyo Yoko, Gren Kuts, Chuji Wu, Hom, and Epon. I hope one day we see some of these characters pop up.

THE EMULATION SPEED ISSUE.
There has been alot of debate about the running speed of HF under emulation. For those who don't know, HF runs faster than the origonal arcade board under emulation (within Mame & Winkawaks) this is because the speed of the game in HF was linked to the CPU speed of the board (or something like that). I have repeatedly timed the full round 'time out' matches of the tourney vids I'm posting, and the correct emulation using the fantastic old Callus Emulator. I've concluded that a round (going by when the clock starts & finishes) is around:
57 SECONDS
In both Mame and WinKawaks under normal settings a round will last approx
46.5 SECONDS
clearly a significant speed inrease, and 'very' noticable when played side by side. Thankfully there is an emulator (besides the fantastic but defunct 'Callus') that runs the game at the correct speed, 'nFBA'. For more info see ONLINE PLAY section at the top of the page for more info:
